The Hidden Agenda Behind the Moriki Local Government Bill — A Word from Hon. Gaddafi Sparrow

As a representative of the people and a true advocate for fairness and justice, I, Hon. Gaddafi Sparrow, find it necessary to speak on a matter that has recently gained momentum at the national level — the proposed creation of Moriki Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

At first glance, the movement seems progressive. After all, the bill has successfully passed its second reading in the Nigerian Senate. Ordinarily, this would be a reason for celebration, especially for the people of Moriki and its environs. However, beneath this surface lies a carefully orchestrated political plot — one that every patriotic citizen must be aware of.

Let me be clear: the bill did not originate from the elected member of the House of Representatives for Shinkafi/Zurmi. Instead, it is being championed behind closed doors by former Governor Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar and another former Governor of Zamfara State, who is currently serving as a junior minister in the federal cabinet. These individuals have allegedly invested heavily to ensure the bill’s passage — not out of goodwill, but to serve their own political agenda.

Their goal? To redraw the map of Zamfara State for personal gain. The plan is to detach Maradun from its current alignment and merge it with the newly proposed Moriki Local Government. This move is calculated to create a convenient senatorial district where Matawalle can contest, while Yari maintains his grip on the western flank of the state.

That’s not all.

They are also allegedly pushing to reassign Kaura Namoda into Central Zamfara, igniting political friction between Gusau and Kaura. This, too, is not accidental. It is part of a wider agenda to destabilize Central Zamfara by creating confusion in candidate selection, thereby weakening political unity and opening space for manipulation.

Make no mistake — this is not about development or representation. It is a deliberate strategy to dominate Northern Zamfara, manipulate the democratic process, and plunge the state into deeper political chaos. These individuals believe they "own" Northern Zamfara and will stop at nothing to maintain control, even if it means using their influence to incite division and conflict.

But let me assure them of one thing: No matter how deeply rooted their plans are, Allah (SWT) is greater than any schemer.

Their attempts to sow discord and hijack the political will of the people will fail, by the grace of the Almighty. Zamfara belongs to all of us, not a few who see the state as their personal empire.
