Candidate of the All progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Bakura/Maradun Federal Constituency in 2019 Hon. Najibu Saleh Gidan Goga has accused the former Governor of Zamfara State Abdulaziz Yari of sabotaging the peace efforts of the present administration in the state.
This is as he said that President Muhammadu Buhari should hold Yari responsible for further security breaches in Zamfara State.
In a statement on Monday in Abuja Gidan Goga accused the former Governor of sabotaging the peace initiatives of the Governor Bello Mattawalle led administration noting that “over 6319 people were killed, while more than 25,000 children were left as orphans, 5000 as widows and over three billion Naira paid as ransom by the relations of the kidnapped victims during the Yari regime.
“It is on record that over 160,000 thousands properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the armed babdits, more than 500,000000 animal approximately were rustled and all economic activities, markets, and motor parks were dried up during that eight years of the past government. Yari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State should not draw the State back to the period of darkness, sorrow, fears and grief” he added.
Gidan Goga further said that ”they should allow Governor Matawalle to govern peacefully to attain to the yearnings and aspirations of our people. We call on the Governor to implement the recommendations of the Zamfara State Committee for finding lasting solution to armed banditry chaired by the Charismatic Former Inspector General Of Police (IGP) M.D Abubakar and eminent personalities like Senator Saidu Dansadau, Dr Sani Shinkafi, Hon Justice Nasiru Gummi, CP Mamman Anka, DIG Mamman Tsafe.
Gidan Goga stated “It is still fresh in our memories, how A.A Yari Government procured 1800 Rifles with chains of ammunition in 2013. We call on the Nigerian Security Agencies to probe him how the arms and ammunition were brought into the country without him having valid license for the procurement of firearms from appropriate agencies. We hereby call on the Inspector General Police to investigate A.A Yari which armory the arms where kept for safekeeping. How the arms and ammunitions were allocated?
“The statement made by the APC publicity committee led by Hon Ibrahim Danmalikin gidan goga that there is 2million Guns in Zamfara State, Let him come with evidence to prove his claims on how he got the statical records and where the arms are kept by the armed bandits, we believe he has a case to answer” he declared.
Due to the killings in Zamfara, Matawalle has vowed to arrest his predecessor, Abdul’aziz Yari if killings continue in the state.
The governor while receiving firearms surrendered by repentant bandits at the Government House, Gusau.
Matawalle alleged that there were attacks and killings of people anytime the former governor visited the state.
He said, “I decided to take this action against the former governor because I observed that whenever he visited the state, there would be attacks and killing of innocent people immediately he left.”
The governor alleged that the recent killings in Karaye village was the third time that Yari visited the state. He added that his predecessor’s visit was followed by a security breach, which he described as “too much of coincidence.”
“Security is the responsibility of all and I wonder why some people such as the former governor and his followers are not happy with the current development in which the security of the state has significantly improved,”he said.
